Miguel Herrera hired as America coach

Miguel Herrera became the new coach of Mexican club America, replacing Alfredo Tena on Wednesday.

Herrera moved from Mexican club Atlante to be the fourth America coach in a year.

America, which has not won a league title since 2005, failed to reach this season's Apertura playoffs, which prompted the change along with the arrival of new club president Ricardo Pelaez.

"I come to a great institution, the best of Mexico," recognized Herrera. "It's a team that wants to start from scratch and we will work hand in hand for this to work and get the title we crave."

"I come to give immediate results and I have never sat under a big team to ask for time. I have to deliver results and six months if it does not work, I will be cast aside.

"We like to win, but the results are important, but we will not go out and defend ourselves," he said. "This team belongs to the television (Televisa) that gives the greatest shows for Mexican's and we want a team that reflects that, we want a full stadium and like the people the team."
