Mexico defender Marquez leaves Club Leon for return to Europe

Hellas Verona have secured the services of veteran Mexico international Rafael Marquez on undisclosed terms.

The 35-year-old defender, who can number Barcelona, Monaco and the New York Red Bulls among his former clubs, has swapped Mexican outfit Club Leon for another shot at European football.

A statement published on Verona's official website said Marquez had successfully passed a medical and had chosen to wear the number four shirt at the Stadio Marc'Antonio Bentegodi.

Marquez betrayed his advancing years to feature at the World Cup finals in Brazil, with his goal against Croatia making him the first Mexican player to score at three consecutive World Cups. He has earned 124 caps in 17 years.
