Mexican League Roundup, Feb. 6
Carlos Orrantia came off the bench and scored his first career goal to lead the Pumas to a 1-0 win over Puebla on Sunday and help his team remain one of two undefeated teams in the Mexican Clausura championship after five rounds.
The other undefeated team is Toluca, which played out a 0-0 draw with Atlas at home.
Orrantia, who turned 20 Wednesday, scored in the 89th minute with a powerful shot from outside the box to give the Pumas their second win in a row.
Pumas have 11 points to lead Group 3, and the overall standings lead with San Luis.
"We are aware that this is just the beginning, we are happy for the fast start, but that's just what it is, we need to keep on working," said Pumas manager Guillermo Vazquez.
Puebla lost its second in a row and remained stuck on four points.
Elsewhere, America notched its third win in a row with a 3-1 win over Queretaro.
Daniel Marquez put America ahead on the 16th, Matias Vuoso added a strike in the 40th and Colombian defender Aquivaldo Mosquera sealed it in the 86th.
America is unbeaten since Chilean manager Carlos Reinoso took over the team nearly two weeks ago, and with nine straight points, now have 10 to take the second place in Group 2.
Julio Nave scored in the 52nd for Queretaro, which lost its second straight and is fighting with Necaxa to avoid relegation.
