Messi Fit to Play Against Alaves

Lionel Messi went through a full training session on Friday and is fit to play if he’s selected by Luis Enrique.

After injuring his groin two weeks ago against Athletic Bilbao, Barca star Lionel Messi has been declared fit to play Alavés this weekend. This news was confirmed by Barca boss Luis Enrique in a press conference after training. “He is in condition to be able to play [against Alavés]. “I’ve spoken with him like I speak with all my players and we know how he is,” the boss said ahead of tomorrows La Liga clash.

While Messi did pick up the injury, he still played with Argentina and scored the winning goal in a qualifier against Uruguay. There is still some concern about Barcelona rushing Messi back early. The Blaugrana’s play their first Champions League match of the season against Celtic on Tuesday. Of course, Barca will need their star if they want to make another run at the Champions League crown.

    There are also big decisions to be made about the two other Barca stars. Neymar and Luis Suarez also returned to Barcelona for training Friday. Neymar impressed again for Brazil scoring in a qualifying victory over Colombia. While they’re both fit to play, Luis Enrique said he’s not afraid to give others playing time. On that subject Luis Enrique would add, “I’m not a wizard, I can’t make all the players happy. There’s not one player happy with the minutes they play, but they know I’m not a wizard.”

    It will be interesting to see what the Barca boss does to his starting 11 for tomorrows La Liga match. The biggest question is what role will Messi play in tomorrows match considering his rush back from injury? Usually, Messi will play the full 90 minutes of a match if need be, However, Messi’s playing time will likely be determined by the result of the match this weekend. Overall, this match isn’t as important as the Champions League clash on Tuesday. However, even with that statement, the 3 points up for grabs against Alavés this weekend are very important and having Messi would certainly help Barca’s chances.
