Martinez tips Hugo to hit form

The highly-rated Colombian has failed to find the net in 10 appearances this season and has been left on the bench for the last two Premier League games. Wigan, who are bottom of the table after 14 games, need the 26-year-old to rediscover the firepower which made him the club's top goalscorer for the past two seasons. But Martinez also wants other players to step up and help Rodallega, who missed a month of action after suffering a knee injury against Everton in September. Martinez said: "Hugo has had a bit of a stop-start season with a couple of knocks and the injury he picked up against Everton. "Now it is only fair we can share that responsibility. "We focus too much on one or two players to score the goals and that has been a little unfair. "Hugo is working really hard to be helpful and effective for the team. "Hugo is a winner and he is going to be back to his best, I am sure." Martinez does not believe Rodallega should be affected by speculation over his future. The former Necaxa player is out of contract at the end of the season and has been linked with other clubs including Juventus, Atletico Madrid and Sevilla. Martinez said: "In football you need to get used to this sort of speculation. "In many ways it is a compliment and gives you a real boost when you see you have got different admirers. "But every comes down to getting your best level at the football club and that is where we need to help every player." Martinez would like to avoid the risk of losing Rodallega in next month's transfer window by tying him to a new contract. Wigan also want 20-year-old playmaker Victor Moses, who has a year and a half left on his present deal, to sign a new contract. Talks have been held with both players and Martinez, although concentrating on his team's league predicament, is hopeful of positive news in the coming weeks. He said: "Every game is such an important event for our football club that we need to understand that whatever happens for Wigan Athletic is more important than individual issues. "But we are working to try to get some players to extend their contracts and give them stability to enjoy their football. "Hopefully the next three or four weeks will be very productive."
