Maran handed reins at Catania

Rolando Maran has been appointed coach of Catania.

The 49-year-old replaces Vincenzo Montella, who left the Sicilian outfit ealier this month and was unveiled on Monday as the new Fiorentina boss.

A statement from the club read: "Catania has turned to coach Rolando Maran to guide the team in the 2012-13 campaign."

Maran joins Catania after guiding Varese to the Serie B play-off final, which they lost to Sampdoria at the weekend.

Catania finished 11th last season with 48 points - their highest-ever tally in Serie A.

Maran, who has no experience coaching in Italy's top flight, has also managed Bari, Triestina and Vicenza.
