Mancini handed prison sentence for rape

Brazilian winger Mancini was found guilty of rape by a Milan court on Monday and sentenced to two years and eight months in jail, according to Italian news agency ANSA.

The former Brazil international was accused of sexual assault on a woman in December of 2010 while playing for AC Milan on loan from city rivals Inter.

Mancini, who maintained his innocence throughout the investigation, claimed that the sex was consensual. Mancini is now due for release until the summer of 2014.

The 31-year-old Mancini is now contracted to boyhood club Atletico Mineiro in Brazil. The ex-Roma and Inter midfielder signed a three-year contract earlier this year in January.
