According to the Manchester Evening News, Manchester City youngster Brahim Diaz signed a new deal with the club that lasts until 2019.

City wrestled the fledgling talent from Malaga last summer. Since then, the Spaniard has conquered the club’s academy and risen to the top of its ranks along with the likes of Angus Gunn, Tosin Adarabioyo, Aleix Garcia, Pablo Maffeo and Angelino.

Diaz made his senior team debut against Swansea City in an EFL tie Wednesday before rushing to play Leicester City’s U-23 squad on Friday.

The highly-rated Diaz is pleased to continue his burgeoning career at City:

I couldn’t be happier signing my first professional contract with City.

I only found out last week and it was amazing for me. This is one of the biggest clubs in the world and I’m really happy at City and my family is very happy in Manchester.

It’s a dream for me and a big moment. I want to keep that dream going and hopefully I will get more opportunities to train with the first team.

Another point of an excitement for Diaz is playing for Pep Guardiola.

“I was calm because I was doing what I love the best,” he said of his first team debut, “but it was amazing to get my chance, play with the players we have here and have Pep Guardiola as the coach.

“Pep has told me to keep working hard and my time will come which is obviously great for me to hear.”

The feeling is apparently mutual. City’s youth footballers have impressed Guardiola, and the Catalan has not been peckish about giving minutes to young players at the club. Diaz is just another promising footballer who’s caught Guardiola’s eye.

The three-year signing of the Spaniard shows City, under Guardiola, is taking the necessary steps to secure its future as a preeminent European club by developing and retaining world class talent.

Diaz, an attacking midfielder himself, looks up to City’s David Silva. To think City has in Diaz another Silva on the verge of becoming a regular on the first team bodes very well indeed.
