Man held over Carroll car blaze

The 22-year-old England forward was playing for Newcastle when his chrome-plated vehicle was torched last October. Carroll was staying with his then club captain Kevin Nolan in Ponteland, Northumberland, as part of bail conditions after being charged with assaulting ex-girlfriend Laurie Henderson, an 18-year-old lingerie model. Graffiti relating to the charge was daubed on a garage wall at Nolan's home. The case against Carroll, who signed for his new club for £35million in January, was later dropped. Northumbria Police said they arrested a man at Newcastle Airport as he flew back into the country. A spokesman said: "On Tuesday police arrested a 33-year-old man from the Whitley Bay area in connection with an arson that happened in Darras Road, Ponteland, on October 20, 2010." He has been bailed until August. Carroll had recently bought the Range Rover to celebrate a new five-year contract with his boyhood club.
