Man charged after Edu is racially abused

A Scottish man has been charged with racially abusing American midfielder Maurice Edu on Twitter.

Michael Convery of Glasgow is alleged to have sent messages to Edu and Rangers teammate defender Kyle Bartley last weekend.

The 41-year-old Convery entered no plea or declaration when he appeared in private at Glasgow's sheriff court.

Convery was granted bail after being charged with racially aggravated harassment.

Edu, who is black, has been with Rangers since 2008 after leaving Major League Soccer's Toronto FC. He was a member of the 2010 U.S. World Cup team.
