Macclesfield midfielder Richard Butcher dies at 29

Macclesfield says 29-year-old midfielder Richard Butcher has died at his home.

Butcher died in Manchester on Sunday night, but the fourth-tier English club did not disclose the cause of death.

Macclesfield said Monday in a statement that Butcher was ''an exemplary professional and a thoroughly likable young man.''

Butcher made the last of his nine appearances for Macclesfield this season in a 2-0 home loss to Rotherham on Jan. 3.
