Luis Suarez pokes fun at Real Madrid while imagining Champions League miracle
Luis Suarez knows that Barcelona face an uphill battle to reach the next stage of the Champions League. After a 4-0 loss at Paris St. Germain in the first leg, the Blaugrana will need a flawless performance to book passage to the quarterfinals.
Still, the Barcelona striker is confident that his side can overcome the odds — and he couldn't help but take a jab at Real Madrid while stating his claim.
"If we scored four against Real Madrid in the Bernabeu, why wouldn't we put them in against PSG at the Camp Nou?" Suarez said in a radio interview with El Transistor.
The four goals that Suarez is referencing is from a match on November 21, 2015, against Barcelona's rivals. El Pistolero found the back of the net twice in that match. There's a strong chance he'd need to repeat that feat and then get some help from his teammates to overturn their deficit to PSG.
Of course, there's likely no chance that the Parisian team are doubting the scoring prowess of their round of 16 opponents. Can Barcelona put up four at home? Absolutely.
Where it gets tricky for Barcelona is making sure they don't concede while they chase down their four-goal hole. An away goal for PSG could put the Blaugrana in a hole that not even Lionel Messi, Neymar and Suarez could climb out of.
There's nothing wrong with feeling confident heading into a key matchup, but Suarez could regret giving Real Madrid this kind of bulletin-board material. They're in the thick of a La Liga title chase, and a date at the Bernabeu looms on April 23. The fans and players surely won't forget this unprovoked slice of shade.
