Lucas signs new deal at Liverpool

Brazil midfielder Lucas Leiva has signed a new contract with Premier League club Liverpool.

The Reds did not specify the length of the deal, only saying it was a ''long-term contract'' that ''secures his future'' with the club.

The 24-year-old Lucas, whose previous deal had just over a year to run, is enjoying his best season for Liverpool since joining from Brazilian side Gremio in 2007.

Lucas, who is a regular member of Brazil's first team, said Wednesday that ''it was an easy decision because I know how big Liverpool is and I can see Liverpool are committed to me and are planning for a future with me.''
