Liverpool target keeper Mignolet

Sky Sports sources understand Nottingham Forest are lining up a move for former Aston Villa defender Eric Lichaj.

The American is a free agent after being released by Premier League Villa at the beginning of June and he is interesting several clubs.

Lichaj played 23 times for Paul Lambert's side in the 2012/13 season and he impressed Forest, who will be targeting promotion from the Championship in the next campaign.

The full-back made 42 appearances for Villa in total since joining the club as a trainee in 2008 and he will want to enjoy a positive 2013/14 to boost his World Cup ambitions ahead of next summer.

Forest could benefit and they are set to win the race for Lichaj ahead of the host of other clubs.

The Belgium international is rumoured to want to leave the Stadium of Light in order to boost his 2014 World Cup ambitions and he has also been linked with Arsenal.

Liverpool could be in need of a goalkeeper given that speculation continues to link their current number one, Jose Reina, with Barcelona.

Sunderland, though, will not be keen to sell Mignolet, who was their Player of the Year in the 2012/13 season.

But the 25-year-old has only two years remaining on his contract and Sunderland will know his value will decrease as time drags on.

However, Sky Sports understands the North East club would still want at least ?9million from Liverpool, who have also been linked with Stoke City's Asmir Begovic.
