Lionel Messi Scores as Argentina defeat Uruguay

Argentina got off to a good start in World Cup qualifying with a 1-0 victory over Uruguay.

It’s certainly a tough task in CONMEBOL qualifying when you have to play a quality side in Uruguay. The match certainly had a lot of controversy and fanfare. 7 yellow cards and one red card later, Argentina would themselves with a 1-0 victory over La Celeste. The big story of this match is that Lionel Messi scored in his return to the national team. He had retired from the team after a heartbreaking loss to Chile in the Copa America Centenario last season.
Messi scored on a strike that took a slight deflection in the 43rd minute to provide the only scoring for the Albaceleste. The celebrations were short-lived as the young Juventus star Paulo Dybala got sent off for his second yellow card just before the break. This provided the opportunities for Uruguay to get something out of the match.
