Lewandowski future uncertain

Bayer Leverkusen joint coach Sascha Lewandowski is considering his future after coaching partner Sami Hyypia was quoted as saying he would prefer to go it alone at times.

Hyypia has strongly denied the comments, claiming his words were twisted, but Lewandowski admits the affair has left him pondering his next step.

"It's a decision which only I can take," he said to Sky television.

"It makes you think, though, because the last few days really have seen an extraordinary turn of events."

There are reports current Bayern Munich coach Jupp Heynckes could make a return to the club, leaving both Lewandowski and Hyypia without a job in the summer, but the club's director of sport Rudi Voller has ruled out the possibility of Hyypia leaving.

He revealed, though, that Lewandowski's future is up in the air.

"The fact is we would love to carry on the way things are," Voller told Sky television.

"We will sit down at the end of the season and see where things go. We would prefer for them both to stay.

"Sami Hyypia will definitely be staying. Sascha is still thinking a little about whether he would prefer to go back to coaching the youth team, but that has not been decided yet.

"We'll just have to wait and see."
