Leigh Griffiths misses Celtic training ahead of Rangers match

Being at top shape and having your best options available is always a good choice ahead of a hotly-contested matchup like the one Celtic will have on Saturday against new Glasgow rivals Rangers.

However, it appears that a hamstring injury suffered by Griffiths early in the second half of Celtic’s last SPFL match against Aberdeen has him still in doubt for the matchup against Sevco on Saturday.

According to multiple reports, Griffiths missed training on Thursday ahead of the New Firm match with Sevco. This comes on the heels of him pulling out of Scotland’s recent internationals in the hopes of getting his hamstring in shape for this match.

There’s little doubt of Griffiths’ importance to Celtic, as he has netted seven goals already this campaign, including one against Aberdeen in the 4-1 victory before being taken off after an hour with that hamstring injury.

Hamstring injuries have bitten Celtic pretty hard already this season, with teenage budding star Patrick Roberts suffering the same fate in a Champions League qualifier against Astana. He has yet to feature since that injury and appears finally fit to go ahead of this derby on Saturday.

At least with Roberts return, Celtic have a creative attacking option that can do it himself as much as assist others. Few players up top are able to create more for themselves than the duo of Griffiths and Roberts, and that may be needed in a big way against a Rangers defense that may be difficult to get space on.
