Leeds forward Souleymane Doukara banned for 8 games for biting opponent
A French forward for English club Leeds has been banned for eight matches for biting an opponent during a game in the second-tier League Championship.
The English Football Association said Thursday that Souleymane Doukara was given the long ban because of the ''seriousness and both unusual and violent nature of the misconduct.'' Doukara had denied a charge of violent conduct.
The incident occurred during Leeds' match against Fulham at Elland Road on Feb. 23. Fulham defender Fernando Amorebieta was the victim of the bite and was booked for his reaction.
The FA said Doukara was warned about his future conduct and fined 5,000 pounds ($7,200).
Leeds, which has nine games left this season, said the club ''is disappointed with the outcome and the length of the ban.''
