Laugh with Sporting CP as they attempt holiday greetings in each other's languages
Language barriers are all too common in European sports, and that couldn’t be truer at Sporting CP.
The Portuguese side’s first team is comprised of no fewer than ten different nationalities, with Portugal, Italy, Serbia, Brazil, Costa Rica, Uruguay, Argentina, Lithuania, Slovenia and the Netherlands all represented on the pitch. Add the many more languages being spoken across all sports at the club, and it makes communication around the “office” nearly impossible.
But in the spirit of the holidays, Sporting decided to tear those barriers down and asked their athletes and staff to teach each other how to wish a merry Christmas in their native tongues.
The results were predictably hilarious, with manager Jorge Jesus failing at Chinese and Ricardo Esgaio struggling with Gelson's Creole. Islam Slimani even called in from Leicester to tutor his former teammates in Arabic.
