Konoplyanka scores super goal as Schalke draws 2-2 at Hertha

BERLIN (AP) — Yevhen Konoplyanka scored one of the goals of the season in the Bundesliga as Schalke drew 2-2 at Hertha Berlin on Friday

The Ukraine winger controlled a long ball on his chest out on the left, and then let it roll down to his feet. Standing still for a few moments, he confused two defenders who thought he was about to pass down the line to a teammate.

Instead, Konoplyanka cut inside and shuffled the ball forward across the left of the penalty area before unleashing a ferocious shot into the net.

It gave Schalke the lead after 17 minutes, but midfielder Marko Grujic equalized six minutes before halftime after being set up by Slovakia midfielder Ondrej Duda.

There were two more goals before the interval as forward Mark Uth put the visitors back in front with a rasping shot into the top corner.

Not to be outdone, veteran striker Vedad Ibisevic headed in a cross from Davie Selke four minutes into first-half injury time.

The draw leaves Hertha in seventh place, and Schalke 12th, ahead of the weekend games.

League leader Borussia Dortmund is at home to Hanover on Saturday, while second-place Bayern Munich hosts Stuttgart on Sunday.
