Klasnic grabs late winner for Bolton vs. QPR
Substitute Ivan Klasnic grabbed a late winner as Bolton beat relegation rival Queens Park Rangers 2-1 on Saturday in a Premier League match that will reignite the ongoing debate over goal-line technology.
The Croatia striker scored in the 85th minute to lift Bolton out of the bottom three and leave the visitors aggrieved after they were denied a 20th-minute goal, with the score at 0-0, when Clint Hill's header clearly crossed the line.
Midfielder Darren Pratley's header gave Bolton the lead in the 37th before French striker Djibril Cisse, returning from a three-match suspension, equalized two minutes after the break.
The result sees Bolton leapfrog QPR in the standings and the London club drop into the relegation zone with 10 matches left, continuing its poor run of results under manager Mark Hughes since he replaced Neil Warnock who was fired in January.
Even though Cisse was in an offside position when he received Shaun Wright-Phillips' pass before scoring his second goal since joining from Lazio in January, it won't stop the ''ghost'' goal being the main talking point of the game. Hughes was seen arguing with the officials in the tunnel after the full-time whistle.
Bolton goalkeeper Adam Bogdan did well to claw the ball back into play after Hill's powerful header, yet video replays showed it was well over the line.
''I just tried to save the ball, and the referee didn't blow his whistle,'' Bogdan said. ''It's hard to make a decision because it's all so quick ... I wasn't sure if it was in or it wasn't.''
