Keisuke Honda Attracting the Attention of MLS Teams

Keisuke Honda has attracted the attention of a few MLS teams and could be tempted to cross the Atlantic Ocean to play in the United States.

Arguably the most popular Japanese player in the world, Keisuke Honda, might be coming to the United States to play in the MLS. Last week, mlssoccer.com reported that the Japanese star is considering a move to the MLS in 2017. The report said that he is interested in joining NYCFC or the LA Galaxy next year with his contract with AC Milan set to expire come June.

To make this rumor even more realistic, Honda showed his interested in MLS in an interview with Kyle McCarthy of FOX Sports.

I’m very interested in MLS, even as a player, but I don’t know if I will play or not. I would say that MLS is a developing soccer league in the world. There are a lot of famous players coming to MLS.

Now, Honda’s scope of interest has moved on to the New York Red Bulls. Once A Metro reported last week that the Japanese international and the Red Bulls have made contact already.

By the time Honda would be in the MLS, he would 31 years old which wouldn’t be the best pick up for LA or the Red Bulls, especially since the Red Bulls are looking to go younger with their player selections.

This rumor is still in its early stages since it is still a year out until Honda’s contract expires with AC Milan. Honda has only played a total of 19 minutes this year in only two substitute appearances. Overall, Honda has made 74 appearances with AC Milan and has scored 9 goals since his first appearance in 2014. His time with the Japanese National Team was much more fruitful, scoring 36 goals in 81 appearances.
