Karl-Heinz Rummenigge extends stay as Bayern Munich chief

Bayern Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has extended his contract with the club through to 2019.

The 60-year-old's current deal was due to expire at the end of this year but he agreed to continue in the role following negotiations with his fellow board members at the club.

After the deal was announced, Rummenigge thanked club president Karl Hopfner "for the trust and the serious and constructive work together", while Hopfner said "it is a good day for Bayern Munich".

Former West Germany striker Rummenigge started his career in 1974 at Bayern and scored 162 goals in 310 Bundesliga games for them before moving to Inter Milan 10 years later.

He became vice-president of the club in 1991 and chairman in 2002.
