Juve takes frustration out on Catania
Juventus scored two goals in each half to brush past Catania 4-0 on Wednesday night.
The defending champions - upstaged by Roma so far this season - were never in danger from the moment Arturo Vidal put them ahead in the 27th minute.
Andrea Pirlo added a second in the 34th minute, before Carlos Tevez (66) and Leonardo Bonucci (71) made extra sure. Catania's frustration at slipping into the bottom three was summed up by Tiberio Guarente's 84th-minute minute second yellow card.
Catania's and Guarente's night never really got going and Juve's opener had a touch of fortune about it.
Vidal took aim from 25 yards but as Guarente dived across him to try to block the shot, he only served to deflect it beyond Mariano Andujar in the away goal. A second duly followed and it was Pirlo at his majestic best.
The veteran midfielder applied virtually no backlift to a free-kick on the edge of the box, but it was still good enough to beat Andujar. Juve never looked like allowing Catania to chip away at their lead and Tevez then made the win even safer as he scored their third.
Nicola Legrotagglie dived in to try to dispossess Fernando Llorente on the edge of the area, but only succeeded in setting Tevez free. He took a touch round the keeper and slotted in with some ease.
All that was left was for Bonucci to round things off, opening his body up on the penalty spot after finishing left-footed as he was left unmarked from a short corner.
