Jol tips Torres for recovery

Torres looks set to have to wait for a chance of redemption ahead of Wednesday night's Carling Cup third-round tie. The Spain international, a £50million signing from Liverpool, produced one of the worst misses in Premier League history when scuffing his shot wide having rounded United goalkeeper David De Gea in Sunday's 3-1 defeat at Old Trafford. The 27-year-old had earlier reduced the deficit with a well-taken finish for his first goal of what has been a difficult start to the new season. However, Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas is likely to rotate his squad for Wednesday night's west London derby clash, meaning Torres will probably not get an immediate chance to make amends. Jol, though, is not reading too much into Torres' supposed confidence crisis. "We have seen a few [misses] - it can happen to all the strikers," the Fulham manager said. "The other year it was Darren Bent who missed a sitter - and there will be a lot of other players who miss chances. "If one of my players did that, I would feel for him, because if I did not, he would lose his confidence." The Fulham manager added: "Torres looked sharp on Sunday, and if he had scored another goal, you would have said 'he is back in business'. "Strikers need confidence and he is a human being, so he will doubt a bit after bad games, but I still feel he did very well against Manchester United." The Cottagers came through qualification for the Europa League and are set to play their 15th match of the season when they make the two-mile trip down Fulham Road tonight. Both managers are set to ring the changes, but Jol feels for a squad like Fulham's, battling on all fronts is just not possible. "Even the players I will rest have told me they would like to be involved," Jol said. "But I have guys like Danny Murphy and Brede Hangeland who have played all of the matches - some teams have played six matches, we have played 14 on the trot. "I have to think about the team and the players as well, I think with the options I have got I think we can line up a very good team against Chelsea. "If I do not play Bobby Zamora, then I can use Orlando Sa, he has not played yet and has to start somewhere, so you never know."
