Jentzsch, Mohrle ruled out of derby
Augsburg's already difficult, if not impossible, task of beating Bavarian rivals Bayern Munich has been made even harder by the loss of three key players to injury.
Goalkeeper Simon Jentzsch, captain Uwe Mohrle and Axel Bellinghausen are all ruled out of Sunday's Bavarian derby due to injury, complicating what was already an unenviable task against a side who have conceded just three goals in the league all season.
However, coach Jos Luhukay is not going to hoist the white flag before going into battle.
"Even if there are not many Bundesliga sides who could compete with our injury misfortune, we're not going to complain," he said.
"We are playing against Bayern, who are now maybe the best side in Europe.
"They don't even need to hold any fear of Barcelona. And we need to put our fears to one side.
"We know that a normal performance will not be enough, but we want to scare Bayern."
Mohamed Amsif will make his debut in goal instead of Jentzsch while Paul Verhaegh could return in the defence.
In contrast, Bayern have been complaining rather vociferously about their injury problems.
Bastian Schweinsteiger's broken collarbone, which he picked up during their 3-2 win over Napoli in the Champions League on Wednesday, earned more attention in the German press than the match itself.
"His loss is really bad," said coach Jupp Heynckes. "He was in amazing form and is a great personality."
Heynckes' thoughts have now turned to how he will replace the Germany international up until the winter break.
David Alaba came on for him in midweek and he seems to be the Bayern coach's preferred option.
"He played well and has become more composed on the ball and has a better vision of the game," said Heynckes.
"I am convinced that whatever I do will work."
Arjen Robben is also still sidelined for the record German champions.
