Japan, Mexico 0-0 at halftime in Confed Cup

Japan dominated Mexico in the first half of their Confederations Cup Group A finale but couldn't score, leaving the sides locked at 0-0 at the Mineirao Stadium.

Both sides are playing for pride on Saturday, having been eliminated by losing their first two matches at the 2014 World Cup test event.

Shinji Okazaki did find the net in the 10th minute from the edge of the area, but it was ruled out for a border-line offside decision.

An early effort from Shinji Kagawa was blocked by the boot of goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa, who also easily collected a low strike from Keisuke Honda.

Mexico was only denied an opening goal by the post after Andres Guardado sent a free header against the woodwork from Jorge Torres' cross.
