Jamie Vardy reveals how taste for Skittles vodka once delayed injury recovery

Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy has had a turbulent life, to say the least. While he burst on the scene with Leicester last season, winning the Premier League title after playing non-League matches as recently as 2012, he also had an unfortunate racist incident at a casino. His autobiography, titled "From Nowhere," shed light on another questionable incident for the 29-year-old.

In an excerpt published by The Sun, Vardy detailed how he drank vodka flavored with Skittles candy early in his career at Leicester:

A Leicester physio had to explain to Vardy that drinking alcohol hinders the healing process. Vardy further explains that he felt depressed about his lack of production and would use alcohol to cope. This snowballed into poor sleeping habits, which would adversely affect his performance, and the cycle would continue.

It's a story we've seen time and time again with athletes and celebrities that go from rags-to-riches. Vardy seems to be back on the right track, but it's stunning to think that he was able to maintain that behavior as a professional.

Vardy's book will be available on Oct. 6.
