James Milner or Alberto Moreno? Who starts against Chelsea

James Milner and Alberto Moreno are both in contention to feature against Chelsea, but who should start?

James Milner vs Alberto Moreno is an epic battle for the ages. Forget about Obi Wan Kenobi vs Anakin Skywalker. Forget about Conor McGregor vs Nate Diaz. Even forget about Hilary vs Trump, because this is where the real battle is about to go down.

Okay, so maybe I’m being hyperbolic, but who should actually start at left-back for Liverpool when they take on Chelsea? In reality, this ‘battle‘ is probably a boring one, but its something worth considering.

Our natural left-back, Alberto Moreno, is under-performing and out of favour. James Milner on the other hand is doing reasonably well covering the unfamiliar role. Do we stick with James Milner in our back four, or do we revert back to trusting Moreno in his natural position?

“Why would anyone choose Moreno, have you seen him play”

Yes. Yes I have. He’s a liability, yet he can do a job when he plays well. His positioning is poor, and he pushes too far too quickly, but he does add to our offensive strengths. The speed he possesses could be crucial against the quick and skillful Chelsea players, and his role on the counter could help us bag a crucial goal.

I think in an attacking game, Alberto Moreno would be less of a risk, but against Chelsea I’m just drawn to Milner.

Sure, he’s not the quickest, but he’s certainly the most intelligent player we’ve got in that position. His experience can help his positioning, and his engine can help him grind down the Chelsea players.

Milner also serves as a creative player on the flank, especially providing service to the wealth of attacking options we now have. For me, Milner needs to start against Chelsea.
