Italy coach Lippi to start observing Amauri

Italy coach Marcello Lippi says he will begin observing Amauri after the Brazilian-born Juventus forward gained Italian citizenship.

Amauri finally got his legal documentation in place and was sworn in Monday.

On Tuesday, Lippi said that "starting today I'll begin following him, but there's no guarantee that he'll be called up (for the World Cup)."

The 29-year-old Amauri has struggled somewhat this season, scoring only five goals in Serie A after producing a total of 27 goals over the past two seasons.

Lippi added that he speaks "often" with AS Roma captain Francesco Totti, who has hinted at a possible return to the national team despite retiring from international play after Italy won the 2006 World Cup.
