Is Cubo Torres off to Mexico?

Houston Dynamo’s Cubo Torres looks to be on his way to Mexico.

Once upon a time, there was a team called Chivas USA. This team, a child of the great Chivas de Guadalajara from Liga MX, was expected to do great things in the MLS. Instead, they were constant basement dwellers and considered the punching bag of the Western Conference. But there was one bright spot that came out of those last few years of Chivas USA: Cubo Torres.

During his one and a half seasons with Chivas USA, Torres scored 22 goals and picked up 2 assists. His form brought the attention of the Mexican National Team and other teams around the league. But once Chivas disbanded at the end of the 2014 season, Torres was signed as a DP for the Houston Dynamo.

Sadly Torres’ great form for Chivas didn’t go with him to Houston. Ever since joining the Dynamo, he has yet to score a goal. His poor form has only seen him on the field 22 times with 7 starts and now it looks like his time with Houston is coming to a close.

Vamos Cruz Azul reported on Thursday that Cruz Azul, currently in 12th in Liga MX, has put in a $6.5 million bid for the 23-year-old striker. It also looks like Houston has accepted the bid and the move will be announced on Sunday.

With the MLS transfer window already over, Houston won’t be able to replace Torres until the end of this season, but you can bet that his replacement will be a striker of some sort as well. With the likes of Nicklas Bendtner and Wayne Rooney being linked to the MLS, Houston has a a few great options this off-season.
