Indiana fires soccer coach Freitag

Indiana has fired men's soccer coach Mike Freitag, five years after he led the Hoosiers to the NCAA championship in his first season as coach.

Freitag had a 86-32-19 record in six seasons, including 12-10-1 this year. Indiana's season ended Sunday with a third-round loss in the NCAA tournament.

Freitag had been a player and assistant coach under Jerry Yeagley, who won six national titles during 41 years at Indiana before retiring after winning the 2003 championship.

The Hoosiers repeated as champions in 2004 under Freitag, but they have not been among the four teams to advance to the College Cup since then.
