Holloway sets Pool points target

Ian Holloway has set Blackpool the target of coming within 60 points of the eventual Premier League champions.

The Seasiders are only eight points off current pace setters Chelsea and currently boast the best away record in the division after registering three wins on their travels so far.

Holloway accepts that gap is never going to match where the clubs will finish the season, but the Tangerines tactician has outlined what he believes the promoted club require in order to preserve their top flight status.

The Pool manager told the Blackpool Gazette: "If we end up with anything like a third of the points the team that finishes top has, then I'll be absolutely chuffed as a badger.

"That would mean we'll have well over 30 or 35 points because teams that win this league are that good - they are over 60 points better than that."

Holloway admitted Blackpool still face an uphill battle to get themselves in England's top tier, despite their fine start to the season.

He added: "The reality is that two teams who finished 21 and 32 points above us in the Championship last season are now with us in this division, so where on earth are these three teams that are going to be worse than us?"

There's only one answer for the Seasiders boss: "We've got to stay solid, keep working and trying to perform to a level which is good enough for this league.

"I think on Sunday we did that, particularly in the first half.

"But I hope everybody in Blackpool thinks this is the best trip they've ever been on."
