Hammers fail in Gameiro bid - Report

Hammers boss Avram Grant is in the market for attacking reinforcements after his loan move for Felipe Caicedo reportedly fell through. Gameiro has emerged as a prime target for the Premier League club after impressing during the past two seasons with Lorient. The livewire frontman joined Lorient from Strasbourg in 2008 and scored 11 goals in Ligue 1 during his debut campaign at the club. The 23-year-old built on that promise by netting 17 goals in the league last term and he has attracted interest from several clubs across Europe. The former France Under 21 international revealed earlier in the summer that Valencia were keen, while AC Milan have also watched him in the past. West Ham have now made an attempt to win the race for Gameiro, although reports suggest Lorient want £11.5million before agreeing to sell. Lorient have already lost one key player this summer after Laurent Koscielny joined Arsenal and will be seeking another sizeable fee before allowing Gameiro to join his former team-mate in the Premier League.
