Gulls dump sorry Spireites out

The Spireites had not beaten a league side in the competition since 1997 and strikes from Danny Stevens, Rene Howe and Kevin Nicholson put them out despite again a fifth goal in eight days from Jordan Bowery. Chesterfield were fortunate not to go behind in the 13th minute when a mistake let in Eunan O'Kane on the right but Stevens miskicked in front of goal - although he made amends seven minutes later. O'Kane again delivered the cross from Howe's pass and this time Stevens bundled the ball in at the near post. A goalline clearance from Joe Oastler denied Bowery an equaliser six minutes later, but Chesterfield levelled in the 59th minute when Bowery headed in Craig Westcarr's cross from the right. Torquay regained the lead in the 72nd minute when former Chesterfield winger Ian Morris sent Howe in to sidestep the keeper for his fourth in four games. And another miserable chapter in Chesterfield's FA Cup history was confirmed in the 88th minute when Nicholson curled a 25-yard free-kick over the wall to seal Torquay's place in the second round.
