Greenpeace donates to charity after Basel protest
The Swiss soccer club FC Basel says Greenpeace donated a ''considerable sum'' to a charity supported by the team after environmental activists disrupted a Champions League match.
Basel says Greenpeace has made the donation to a children's home in Romania following the Oct. 1 protest. The team says Greenpeace acknowledged damage to the club's reputation.
European soccer's governing body fined Basel $41,000 for the security breach at St. Jakob Park during a match against Schalke.
Greenpeace activists descended from the stadium roof to unfurl a banner in protest of the Russian oil and gas firm Gazprom, which sponsors the Champions League and Schalke.
The banner also referred to 30 people detained in Russia after their boat was seized during a protest at an Arctic drilling platform.
