Gladbach sign Jonas Hofmann from Borussia Dortmund

DORTMUND, Germany --

Borussia Moenchengladbach has signed attacking midfielder Jonas Hofmann from Bundesliga rival Borussia Dortmund.

The move becomes effective on Jan. 1, the opening day of the midseason transfer period. Neither club gave financial details of the transfer. Hofmann signed a contract through mid-2020.

Hofmann made seven appearances for Dortmund in the first half of the season and scored one goal.

Moenchengladbach has several injured attacking players, including Patrick Herrmann and Andre Hahn.

Hofmann's debut for Moenchengladbach could come against his old club when the two sides meet Jan. 23 in the first round after the Bundesliga's winter break.
