Giggs signs yearlong Man United contract extension
Manchester United veteran Ryan Giggs signed a one-year extension to
his contract on Friday, committing himself to the Premier League
champions until the end of next season.
The 36-year-old Giggs has never played for another club and
played in all 11 of United's Premier League title-winning sides on
his way to becoming British football's most decorated player.
He is the only player to have scored in every season of the
Premier League since its inception in 1992.
"Ryan deserves a new contract and I am sure that he will play
for another two years," United manager Alex Ferguson said. "His
form is fantastic at the moment and he is playing some of his best
football."
Giggs has played a record 821 games for United, modifying his
game with age to transform himself from a speedy left winger to an
intelligent deep-lying midfielder.
He broke Bobby Charlton's long-standing appearance record for
United in the 2008 Champions League final.
"I am delighted that I have agreed one more year," Giggs
said. "I am enjoying my football more than ever and I am looking
forward to hopefully winning more trophies with Manchester United."
Giggs has won 11 Premier League titles, two Champions
Leagues, four FA Cups, three League Cups, one UEFA Super Cup, the
Intercontinental Cup and one Club World Cup.
