Fulham, Stoke lose in 2nd round of League Cup

Fulham and Stoke were knocked out of the second round of the League Cup as 10 other Premier League teams advanced on Tuesday.

Fulham lost 1-0 at second-tier Sheffield Wednesday from forward Gary Madine's 50th-minute penalty, while third-tier club Swindon beat Stoke 4-3 after extra time following forward James Collins' 120th-minute winner for his hat trick.

Also, Aston Villa defeated Tranmere 3-0; Norwich edged out Scunthorpe 2-1; Wigan won 4-1 at Nottingham Forest; Queens Park Rangers beat Walsall 3-0 and Southampton won 4-1 at Stevenage.

Sunderland downed Morecambe 2-0; Swansea topped Barnsley 3-1; West Ham defeated Crewe Alexandra 2-0; Reading twice came from behind to beat Peterborough 3-2 and West Bromwich Albion won 4-2 at Yeovil.
