Frosinone shut out Empoli for first-ever Serie A victory

ROME -- Building off its draw at Juventus, promoted Frosinone beat visiting Empoli 2-0 Monday for its first ever win in Serie A.

Federico Dionisi scored twice in the second half for Frosinone, which is playing in the top division for the first time in its 103-year history.

Already down two goals, Empoli's Riccardo Saponara was shown a direct red card for protests.

The victory moved Frosinone into 16th place, level on four points with Empoli.

Also, Atalanta beat Sampdoria 2-1 with an early own goal from defender Niklas Moisander on a failed clearing attempt and a second from German Denis in added time.

Roberto Soriano pulled one back for Sampdoria in the final seconds.

Atalanta moved up to eighth, four points behind leader Fiorentina, with Sampdoria one point behind.
