Frankfurt captain Marco Russ cleared to play after cancer treatment

Eintracht Frankfurt captain Marco Russ just got some fantastic news from his doctors: he's cleared to return and can start rehab after being diagnosed with testicular cancer in May.

The 31-year-old Russ failed a drug test after his team's game against Darmstadt and it was discovered that he had abnormally high levels of the growth hormone hCG, caused by the cancer. After undergoing successful surgery he's now been given the green light to embark upon his return to action.

Speaking on Monday, Eintracht Frankfurt coach Niko Kovac told the press: "Marco is healthy, he has permission from the doctors to go back to work. We are all very happy with Marco's news. He was with us today and passed on the message.

"First of all he has to improve his fitness, but he wants to be as close to the team as he can be. He wants to travel with the team to Hamburg (on Friday)."
