Frank Lampard puts up $500 for fans to attend NYCFC game

New York City FC's Frank Lampard hasn't been on the Yankee Stadium pitch just yet, sitting out with a calf injury, but at least he's making sure others get to take in the atmosphere.

The England legend gave a lucky group of 20 fans free tickets to watch the team's match against Toronto FC last weekend, while signing autographs with David Villa at City's training grounds parking lot.

"One of the girls in our group cheekily asked if we could get tickets for the Toronto FC game, but he explained he only gets four complimentary tickets per game and there was 20 of us," Megan Nicholson told Talking Baws: "He paused for a minute before telling us to wait in the car park for a minute while he went back inside."

"After a moment or two, he came out and asked for one of our names before telling us he'd ordered 16 tickets through Ticketmaster in the ticket office. He explained he'd given the girl in the ticket office his card details and that we just had to pick them up before the game. We were all in shock and couldn't thank him enough. He's a lovely guy."

Well done, Lamps!

The game was a cracker, too. NYC FC's 4-4 draw with Toronto featured a Sebastian Giovinco hat-trick in just nine minutes, as well as an MLS-record four penalty kicks.

Hopefully, Lampard will be able to take one of those himself at the MLS All-Star Game, to which he was selected by commissioner Don Garber!
