FIFA details how $1.2B development money spent

FIFA has published details of who has shared more than $1.2 billion of development funding during Sepp Blatter's presidency since 1998.

The move toward greater financial transparency comes after longstanding criticism that FIFA paid too little attention to how funding was allocated and spent, and that some money helped buy future political favor.

FIFA says a new online application on its website gives ''a global perspective on all development initiatives implemented by FIFA.''

The so-called ''Development Globe'' map shows users how each of FIFA's 209 member countries spent their annual $250,000 grants since 2008.

FIFA's website also now shows ''the names of the local auditors and the identity of local contractors'' who were paid since 1998 for Goal Bureau projects, such as new buildings and fields.
