Fernandez named new Nancy coach

Nancy have named Jean Fernandez as their new coach.

Former Auxerre boss Fernandez, 56, has been brought in to replace Uruguayan coach Pablo Correa, who left the Lorraine club at the end of the season after nine years in charge.

The Ligue 1 club said in a statement on their official website www.asnl.net: "Courted by several clubs, Jean Fernandez has finally chosen Nancy.

"This is great news for the club, who made it their priority to find a successor to Pablo Correa.''

Fernandez left Auxerre last week after five years in charge, steering the Burgundy club into the Champions League at the end of the 2009-10 season.

He had also been linked to Marseille, where coach Didier Deschamps has still not committed himself to another season in charge.

Correa announced his intention to leave Nancy in March and is on the look-out for a new opportunity. They finished 13th in Ligue 1 in the campaign just finished, pulling clear of trouble by winning their final three league games.
