Fenerbahce withdraws appeal with CAS

Turkish club Fenerbahce says it is withdrawing an appeal filed against UEFA and the Turkish Football Federation, seeking compensation for being barred from the Champions League over a match-fixing scandal.

Fenerbahce said Thursday it was ''renouncing'' the case filed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport. It did not give a reason for the decision.

The club was demanding ?45 million in compensation for lost prize money, match revenues and devalued stock.

Fenerbahce won last season's Turkish league but was accused of fixing matches during its unbeaten title run. Club President Aziz Yildirim was jailed and is a main defendant in an ongoing criminal trial.

The Turkish federation withdrew Fenerbahce from the Champions League last August, days before the group stage draw.
