Fan stabs player after regional division game in Spain

MALAGA, Spain (AP) A regional division Spanish football club says one of its players has been hospitalized after being stabbed by a spectator following a match.

Spokesman Salvador Ferrer of football club Alhaurin de la Torre tells The Associated Press that the attack occurred after Sunday's match between the club's B-team playing away at rival El Palo.

Ferrer says the player - whose name was not released - was stabbed on the pitch after the end of the game won by El Palo.

A spokesperson for Malaga's Hospital Regional in southern Spain tells the AP that the 24-year-old victim is in ''serious but stable condition'' after being treated for two stab wounds to his chest.

Ferrer says the police are investigating.
