Fan attacks referee on field during Trabzonspor-Fenerbahce game
Referees take a lot of abuse from fans, players and managers. It's an unfortunate part of the job.
What's not supposed to be part of the job is getting attacked by an angry fan.
That's what happened in a Turkish Super Lig match on Sunday between Trabzonspor-Fenerbahce.
In the final minutes of stoppage time, a Trabzonspor fan was apparently unhappy with the officiating as his team was down 4-0.
Watch what happens:
That is not some casual pitch invader. That is also not just a tackle. That fan is kicking and beating on the referee.
At least some alert stewards and security come to the ref's rescue right away.
Fortunately the referee appears to have escaped unscathed and gives his colleagues a wave.
The game was called off after the incident as players and coaches from both sides ran on to the field. Fans also began through throwing projectiles onto the pitch.
Visiting fans also pulled down safety netting and riot police were deployed to regain order.
Scary stuff!
