FA won't renew Pearce contract as Under-21 coach

Stuart Pearce is out as coach of England's Under-21 team.

The Football Association says it will ''not be renewing his contract,'' which expires at the end of the month.

Tuesday's announcement came after England lost all three of its group matches at the European Under-21 Championships in Israel this month.

Pearce, a former England defender, has been Under-21 coach since 2007, taking the team to four European Championship final tournaments.

FA chairman David Bernstein says Pearce ''has done extremely well in qualifying for finals tournaments, but after the disappointment of the past two tournaments, we believe it is time to change coach.''

No replacement was immediately appointed.
