Excelsior stunned, Twente through

Nijkerk, from the Topklasse, stunned top-flight strugglers Excelsior with a 2-1 win at De Ebbenhorst. Stefan Frederiksen opened the scoring in the 21st minute but Daan Bovenberg seemed to have restored order with a goal five minutes before the interval. Maurice van der Wilt had other ideas, though, and grabbed a famous winner in the 66th minute. Reigning Dutch Eredivisie champions Twente required a penalty shoot-out to see off second-tier FC Zwolle and reach the quarter-finals. Both sides lead their respective divisions and the top-flight side took an 82nd-minute lead through Nacer Chadli, only to be pegged back three minutes from time by Yannick Wildschut. But Twente prevailed 5-3 on penalties, with Bryan Ruiz, Denny Landzaat, Dario Vujicevic, Chadli and Douglas completing a perfect series and keeper Sander Boscker keeping out Frank Olijve's effort. NAC Breda won 2-0 at Heerenveen in the night's only all-Eredivisie clash, Matthew Amoah and Robbert Schilder scoring the goals early in the second half. FC Volendam progressed with a 2-1 win away to Dordrecht. Laszlo Zsidai set them on their way in the first minute and, although Moussa Kalisse equalised, Henny Schilder struck 13 minutes from time to settle matters. RKC Waalwijk enjoyed a comfortable 4-1 win at Cambuur Leeuwarden. Fred Benson's penalty started the scoring and Donny de Groot and Derk Boerrigter made it 3-0 by the hour mark. Oguzhan Turk pulled a goal back but Roald van Hout restored the three-goal margin. First-half goals from Arvid Smit and Jeroen Tesselaar earned Stormvogels Telstar a 2-0 win at SDC Putten in the night's other game.
