Everton beats West Ham 2-0 in Premier League
Kevin Mirallas gave David Moyes a victory in his final home game as Everton manager, scoring twice in a 2-0 victory over West Ham.
The Belgium striker drilled home the opening goal in the sixth minute and then added the second with a deflected shot in the 60th to give Moyes a perfect sendoff from Goodison Park.
Moyes is taking over from Alex Ferguson at Manchester United at the end of the season after leading the Toffees for 11 years.
The win over West Ham also guaranteed that Everton will finish above Liverpool for the second successive season.
After the final whistle, the squad formed a guard of honor for outgoing captain Phil Neville and then Moyes, who received the biggest cheer of the afternoon.
The manager walked to the center circle waving to the crowd but looked like he did not know quite how to react as chairman Bill Kenwright watched on from the directors' box with a tear in his eye.
?''It was really emotional from the moment I came in - all the stewards were standing clapping me and I didn't know what to do,'' Moyes said. ''I am gobsmacked, very thankful and humble for what the people of Everton have shown today. What I will miss is what you saw in the middle of the second half - the supporters were not cheering David Moyes, they were cheering their football club and standing up for it.
?''I thought that was the toughest part for me today - it was a difficult time - because the crowd showed how big Everton are and what it means to them.''
Neville is also leaving the club but watched the game from the stands because of an injury.
''In all my years in professional football I have never met a harder-working man than the gaffer,'' the 36-year-old Neville said about Moyes. ''I was told before I arrived at Everton that he had an astonishing work ethic and that his attention to detail was second-to-none but it's not until you actually work with him you realize just how much he puts in to try to win football matches. ... I know he can leave Everton after next week's game secure in the knowledge that every single day of his time here he has given nothing less than 100 percent.''
